Waves crashing on to shore

Take precautions ahead of high wind forecast for today

October 25 2019 –

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Vancouver today. Winds out of the Northwest are expected to peak by noon, reaching gusts of up to 90 kilometres/hour. Winds will ease this evening as the front moves eastward.

Take precautions while outside

Take precautions as sustained high winds may cause trees to sway, branches to break and, in extreme cases, be uprooted. It is recommended to avoid large trees in parks, streets, and on private property when the wind is at its peak.

City of Vancouver Engineering Services and Park Board Urban Forest crews are on standby to deal with any tree events or electrical issues throughout the city today.

Ghost train closed

As a precaution the Stanley Park Ghost Train will be closed for the day and may reopen for the 5:30pm evening event, depending on the impact of anticipated wind gusts. Park rangers are on standby to close Stanley Park should the winds present a risk to public safety.
