Local food systems encompass the whole food cycle from growing and gathering, to knowledge-sharing, processing, purchasing, eating, and composting.
Local Food System Action Plan documents (2021)
Vancouver Parks and Recreation works with many community groups to support growing spaces, land and food programming, public food markets, and community kitchens to share food and culture across the city.
In 2021, Park Board commissioners approved the updated Local Food System Action Plan. The vision of this 5-year plan is to move toward a sustainable, just, and decolonized local food system.
The Park Board acknowledges Vancouver as the unceded land of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations and recognize the importance of making space for Indigenous food sovereignty, increasing equitable access to food assets and services, and working towards food system resiliency as part of reconciliation and climate action.
