The Supportive Housing Grant (SHG) program aims to benefit supportive housing residents and foster positive relationships between supportive housing providers, residents, and the local community.
The program supports events or projects that bring supportive housing providers, residents, and community together to promote healthy and vibrant neighbourhoods.
Non-profit societies that would like to hold an event or project in Vancouver are welcome to apply.
Non-profit societies that are not supportive housing operators must provide a formal statement from a supportive housing operator of their partnership in the granting process.
Events or projects that receive SHG funding should complete their projects or events within one year of City Council approval of the project, no later than December 31, 2023.
The goals of the SHG program are to:
Support residents of Vancouver’s Supportive Housing
Support events or projects to foster connection between supportive housing providers, residents, and the neighbouring community
Build greater understanding of the role of supportive housing in Vancouver
Bolster and elevate the voices and experiences of supportive housing residents
Decrease the stigma associated with supportive housing, and some residents struggling with mental health and addiction and to help overcome barriers between supportive housing residents and the broader community
The 2022 SHG program offers two streams for funding, large and small.
Large Grant: Up to $15,000
Small Grant: Up to $5,000
Important note Applicants to both the Direct Services Projects and Social Engagement Programs streams can apply to either the large or small grant streams.
Matching funding
We strongly encourage applicants to leverage additional funds from other sources to match or supplement grant funds, especially for large grant applications. We will evaluate all applications firstly on their own merits, but the ability of the applicant to bring additional funds to the table will still factor in our evaluation.
