VPD Cadet Program

Applications for the 2019-2020 school year will be accepted
from April 1 to June 7, 2019.

The Vancouver Police Department Cadet Program is a community-based youth program that brings together high school students from Grades 10-12, and gives them the tools to maximize their personal potential. Emphasis is placed on the five VPD Core Values: integrity, compassion, accountability, respect, and excellence. There is no cost to join and everything is provided throughout the year.

The program was established in 2014, and has approximately 60 graduates annually. Many graduates have built on skills developed within the program, and moved on to post-secondary education, the military, positions within the VPD, and much more. Although many cadets hope to some day become police officers, this is not a requirement to join, as the program benefits best from a variety of personalities and skill sets.

Throughout the 28 weeks, cadets will be led by active Vancouver Police officers and educated in the areas of leadership, teamwork, physical fitness, nutrition, community service, public speaking, communication, resume building, and more. Cadets will also receive a minimum 15 hours instruction from Police Judo, which is committed to teaching appropriate techniques for law enforcement, and providing self defence skills for students.

Cadets will participate in drill, and community parades, such as Remembrance Day and Chinese New Year. They will have two weekend camps where they will experience life outside the city.

This program is both a commitment and an opportunity. We are committed to providing participants with the life skills required to become leaders in their communities, make ethical decisions, and succeed at whatever they set out to achieve.

Life rewards those who show up.

Do you have what it takes?
