Body-worn cameras pilot for parking enforcement officers (PEO)

Role of a PEO

PEOs play an important role in keeping our roads safe and clear of traffic by enforcing the City’s parking regulations. They interact with the public on a daily basis on foot, bike, or in a vehicle.

What the pilot includes

Starting in August 2025, we will equip 15 PEOs with body-worn cameras as part of a 6-month pilot to improve their physical and psychological safety. This responds to rising incidents of verbal abuse, physical abuse, and assaults on PEOs.

The pilot will assess whether the cameras help deter abuse and violence and safeguard these frontline staff while they work. Cameras are for safety only and will not be used for parking enforcement.

A PEO will activate the camera to start recording if they feel their safety is at risk. The public may be recorded during these situations.
