As a City of Reconciliation, we respect the Squamish Nation’s rights to develop the Sen̓áḵw lands.
We have established a services agreement PDF file (3.5 MB) with the Squamish Nation to provide municipal services and make sure the appropriate infrastructure supports the development and its integration into the surrounding community.
We’re making utility and transportation changes in the Kits Point area to support the Sen̓áḵw development External website, opens in new tab.
We will begin water main construction in the Kits Point area in 2024.
Transportation changes and safety upgrades
We have refined our transportation designs for Kits Point. In late 2025, we are planning improvements PDF file (791 KB) on Chestnut, Greer, Cypress, and Cornwall including:
- Wider sidewalks on south side of Greer Avenue
- Pedestrian islands at intersections
- Two-way bike lane on the south side of Greer Avenue from Cypress Street to Chestnut Street
- One-way bike lanes on both sides of Cypress Street extended north to Greer Avenue
- Two-way bike lane on east side of Chestnut Street to Park Lane
- New protected intersection at Cornwall Avenue and Cypress Street with dedicated signal phasing to manage turning conflicts
We will be engaging with the community in late 2024 to early 2025 to review potential changes to parking in the neighbourhood.
What's happeningTree removal project on Greer Avenue
We will remove 6 trees in early March on the south side of the 1800 block of Greer Avenue to prepare for the water main installation.
We will replant new trees following the transportation upgrades that begin in winter 2025.
Water main preparation and installation
In mid-March, we will begin preparing for the water main upgrade by digging test holes at:
- 1800 block of Creelman Avenue
- 1300 block of Chestnut Street
- 1800 block of Greer Avenue
Water main construction will begin along the blocks listed above in late May or early June.
