Water Street pedestrian zone pilot

We are working with the local Nations, Gastown Business Improvement Society, community organizations, event organizers, and businesses to create a welcoming experience on Water Street.

As directed by Council, we are turning Water Street into a pedestrian zone in July and August of summer 2024.

During the pilot, sections of Water Street and Maple Tree Square will be closed to vehicles to allow for a vibrant pedestrian zone with:

  • Public seating
  • Community activations
  • Expanded patios
  • Merchandise displays
  • Art installations
  • Special events

Local vehicle access for residents and businesses will be maintained at all times. This includes deliveries and access for visitors and customers.
