APPLY FOR THE WALK BIKE ROLL COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM

Are you a Vancouver organization with a project to help boost walking, biking or rolling in your community?

The City of Vancouver is offering between $500 to $5,000 in funding for local non-profits and charities focused on increasing active travel and transit in disproportionately impacted communities. Organizations can receive funding for projects such as hosting active travel and transit training and purchasing equipment to facilitate active travel.

Nearly 40% of Vancouver’s carbon pollution comes from burning gasoline and diesel in our vehicles. Our Climate Emergency Action Plan, aims to achieve two-thirds of trips in Vancouver by active transportation and transit by 2030. Community-based projects funded through this program help ensure that the benefits of climate action reach more equity-deserving communities.

YOUR TURN

If you’re a Vancouver organization looking to promote active travel or transit, learn more and apply for this funding opportunity before March 10.
Email WalkBikeRoll@Vancouver.ca for any inquiries or support before applying.

MAKE YOUR BUILDING MORE CLIMATE FRIENDLY WITH THE STRATA ENERGY ADVISOR PROGRAM

Is your strata-owned building planning major upgrades this year?

The Zero Emissions Innovation Centre’s recently launched Strata Energy Advisor program provides busy strata councils with a tailored plan to enhance comfort and cooling, find financial incentives and cut carbon pollution in large multi-family buildings. The program offers free guidance from an expert advisor to align necessary replacement projects with sustainable upgrades including switching from natural gas, adding cooling or improving overall building performance.

This program aligns with the City’s goals to cut carbon pollution from building heating and hot water in half by 2030. With climate-friendly retrofits, buildings can reduce their carbon footprint while improving air filtration and cooling in preparation for climate change-related extreme heat events.

YOUR TURN

Interested in learning if this program is right for your strata building? Invite your strata council to speak directly with a Strata Energy Advisor at an upcoming live webinar on March 13.

SHAPE THE FUTURE OF DOWNTOWN GRANVILLE STREET

The City is seeking input on how to make downtown Granville a welcoming, inclusive and vibrant entertainment district, while preserving the unique historical character that makes the area special. The vision is to create a lively, fully pedestrianized street filled with art, patios and plazas, restaurants and cafes, performance venues and community celebrations from day to night. The proposed directions aim to:

  • Diversify daytime and nighttime activity in the area and foster a thriving arts and culture hub by encouraging more mixed-use developments.
  • Explore collaborative public safety efforts.
  • Establish a comprehensive public space plan that will make downtown Granville a destination for residents and visitors alike.

This work supports Big Move 1: Complete Communities of our Climate Emergency Action Plan. Creating more pedestrian-friendly streets and public spaces helps encourage active transportation while reducing carbon pollution from personal vehicles.

YOUR TURN

Share your thoughts on the proposed direction: Fill out the survey or attend an online open house by February 23.
Your feedback will help shape the final draft plan, which will be presented to Council for decision in June 2025.

SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE DRAFT RUPERT AND RENFREW STATION AREA PLAN

We’re excited to share the latest updates to the draft Rupert and Renfrew Station Area Plan

This revised version reflects community feedback from previous engagement rounds, along with insights from additional economic testing and technical studies. We invite you to review the updates and share your thoughts. Key updates to the draft Area Plan include:

  • Revisions to land use for housing opportunities and ground-level shops
  • More detailed groundwater requirements for the protection of Still Creek
  • A Public Realm Strategy, including opportunities to repurpose road space

Land-use planning actively shapes neighborhood design, transportation networks and housing opportunities, helping us achieve our Climate Emergency Action Plan goal of having 90% of Vancouver residents within an easy walk or roll of their daily needs. The draft Plan also aims to enhance Still Creek for better stormwater management, helping Vancouver prepare for ongoing climate change-related extreme rain events.

YOUR TURN

Learn more about the updates to the draft Plan and share your input in the survey, open until February 18.
