NOTEWORTHY

We are seeking input on what your priorities are for City spending in the 2025 Budget. Fill out the survey at shapeyourcity.ca/budget before Sept 16. Feedback will be combined into a public report and shared with Council as part of Budget 2025 discussions later this year.

The Government of Canada has launched consultations on the right to repair for home appliances and electronics, focusing on durability, repairability and interoperability. Canadians are invited to provide feedback until Sept 26 to help shape policy, including measures to enhance repair options without voiding the warranty of a product.

Our 2024 School Streets Report is hot off the press! Some highlights from this year include:

  • 24% of parents reported walking more
  • Almost 200 families tried walking, biking or rolling to school for the first time
  • 97% of students reported feeling safer

GET READY FOR GO BY BIKE WEEKS

Keep the wheels turning with HUB Cycling’s Fall Go by Bike Weeks.

Just because summer is almost over doesn’t mean that the cycling fun must end. Discover how to enjoy cycling in the Fall with HUB Cycling’s Go by Bike Weeks from September 23 to October 6.

For two weeks, pedal to all your favorite places—work, school, leisure activities and beyond. Not only will you be embracing a healthier lifestyle, but you'll also be helping tackle carbon pollution. Nearly 40% of Vancouver's carbon emissions come from burning gas and diesel in vehicles and with our Climate Emergency Action Plan, we aim to have 2/3 of all trips in the city made by active transportation and transit by 2030. Events like these are a step toward that goal.

YOUR TURN

Now: Register as a solo participant or as part of a team and encourage your friends, family and colleagues to join too.

During Go by Bike Weeks: Log your trips and visit Celebration Stations around the city for on-site cycling resources, tasty snacks, bike maintenance, awesome prizes, and more.

Ongoing: Keep the momentum, let's pedal our way to a greener future together.

PARTICIPATE IN CIRCULAR ECONOMY MONTH THIS OCTOBER

This October is Canada’s first-ever Circular Economy Month, a public awareness campaign dedicated to educating and empowering Canadians to support an economy that delivers on the most important values of Canadians: protecting the planet and prioritizing people.

Vancouver joins hundreds of other municipalities, organizations and businesses from across Canada in conserving natural resources, protecting the environment, supporting local economies and safeguarding the wellbeing of our residents and visitors.

Why moving towards a Circular Economy is good for Vancouver:

  • To conserve scarce resources. When we conserve, reuse, recycle, and recover resources we already have, we keep their value and shift towards a circular economy that uses waste as a resource.
  • To extend the Vancouver landfill’s use. Fully using resources helps conserve valuable landfill space.
  • To create social and economic opportunities. Connecting people through zero waste initiatives can inspire greater community involvement, partnerships, innovation, and sharing of materials.
  • To limit carbon pollution. Avoiding disposal at landfills and incinerators reduces the air pollution, like methane that contributes to climate change.
