GO BY BIKE WEEK IS BACK
Get ready to celebrate the cycling season with HUB Cycling’s Go by Bike Week from May 31 to June 6! Whether you’re commuting, running errands or simply enjoying the ride, this is the perfect time to dust off your bicycle and discover everything cycling around the city.
For one week, join thousands across the region and choose pedal power for a healthier, happier and cleaner way to get around. Plus, there are great prizes and fun community events to join.
Cycling isn’t just fun; it’s good for the planet and an affordable way to travel around town. By choosing active transportation, you can help us meet our Climate Emergency Action Plan goal of 2/3 of trips by active transportation or transit by 2030.
YOUR TURN
Sign up for Go by Bike Week as an individual or as a team, and encourage your family, friends and colleagues to join too, and then:
- Log your cycling trips for a chance to win exciting prizes and see the positive impact you've made by reducing carbon pollution.
- Visit Celebration Stations across Vancouver for free bike maintenance, cycling resources, snacks and more!
Participate as a school: Register for Bike to School week, happening June 2 to 6.

WATERING RESTRICTIONS BEGIN
Seasonal water restrictions are in effect from now until October 15, 2025, limiting lawn watering to one day per week for Vancouver homes and businesses.
Did you know? Vancouver’s drinking water comes from rain and snowmelt collected in the Capilano, Seymour and Coquitlam watershed. Reduced snow accumulation due to climate change is impacting this supply, while population growth means more demand.
During summer months, the Metro Vancouver region experiences a 50% increase in drinking water use, largely due to lawn watering. Watering restrictions are one way we help ensure there is enough treated drinking water for everyone. Through the Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, we’re also taking action to build resilience to climate-related drought risks and create a healthier, more resilient and equitable city.
YOUR TURN
Avoid the risk of a $250 fine by watering only when permitted. Find out when you can water here.
Want to contribute to more climate-resilient green spaces? Adopt a street tree to support our urban forest during hot summer months, and check out this Drought Resistant Gardening Guide for resources and tips from The Society Promoting Environmental Conservation.

SOAR INTO THE GREATER VANCOUVER BIRD CELEBRATION
Are you ready to spread your wings and embrace the joy of birding? The Greater Vancouver Bird Celebration is in full swing from now until May 25. From workshops that will teach you all about bird identification to walks where you can spot local avian celebrities, there's something for birders of all ages and experience levels.
Metro Vancouver is home to over 250 species of birds which serve as vital indicators of a thriving ecosystem. Vancouver was first certified as a Bird Friendly City in 2021, and we continue to work with partners to reduce threats, protect and restore habitat for native birds through the Vancouver Bird Strategy.
This initiative aligns with our Climate Change Adaptation Strategy’s aims of preparing for and responding to climate-related impacts to the health and wellbeing of our communities and ecosystems.
