2050 projections
Updated local climate projections show that we can expect:
- A decrease in average summer rainfall
- Longer summer dry spells
Droughts are prolonged periods of dry conditions and water shortages that can be caused by a combination of:
- Insufficient snow accumulation
- Prolonged hot and dry weather
- Low rainfall
While Vancouver is sometimes affectionately referred to as “Rain City”, climate change is altering precipitation patterns.
Building the future we want
A city that’s resilient to drought means:
- Healthier local ecosystems
- More efficient use of water through improved metering systems
- Exploring alternative sources of water for irrigation to conserve drinking water
