Extreme rainfall refers to a range of rainfall events that may result in surface ponding, overland flow, and environmental pollution. At the more severe end, these events overwhelm the capacity of drainage systems.
Climate change is causing the frequency and intensity of these events to increase.
Building the future we want
A city that is resilient to extreme rainfall means:
- More green space through green rainwater infrastructure and nature-based flood mitigation projects
- Communities taking care of rainwater assets through the Adopt a Catch Basin program
- New strategies to better protect the areas and residents most affected
