Kitsilano Beach Park tennis courts

Kitsilano Beach Park tennis courts

The Vancouver Park Board has completed renovations of the Kitsilano Beach Park tennis courts. This project began in September 2012 and was completed in September 2013.

The five northern tennis courts were reconstructed to meet International Tennis Federation tournament standards, while the five southern courts were resurfaced with asphalt and plexipave sports coating. New drainage, fencing, and a practice wall were also installed.

The Park Board had sufficient budget to renovate the northern courts. Funding to resurface the five southern courts came from the Park Board and fundraising from residents and the local tennis community.

The Kitsilano Beach Park tennis courts are located on Kitsilano Beach at Arbutus St. and Creelman Ave. Built in 1952, this facility offers 10 tennis courts – five in the north section and five in the south section (along with a practice wall). The northern tennis courts developed cracks and uneven grading, and both sets of courts had poor drainage and did not meet tournament standards.

The five northern tennis courts were reconstructed to meet International Tennis Federation tournament standards, while the five southern courts were resurfaced with asphalt and plexipave sports coating. New drainage, fencing, and a practice wall were also installed.
