Publications

The Vancouver Park Board has published or purchased in quantity several titles relating to the history of recreation and parks in our fair city. We also have brochures available to make your visits to our facilities and parks more enjoyable!

Books can be purchased with advance notification from the Administration office at 2099 Beach Avenue, weekdays from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Please email us or phone 604-257-8409 for further information.

Brochures are available at the Reception desk or phone 3-1-1 (Vancouver), 604-873-7000 (outside Vancouver) to arrange mailings. Large quantities must be pre-approved and picked up from the office at 2099 Beach Avenue.

Annual Report 2010

The Park Board's 2010 Annual Report highlights the major accomplishments in Vancouver's parks and recreation over the past year that helped keep our lives fun and healthy and our city beautiful and livable. The report features our stunning facilities and parks, environmental leadership, community partnerships and powerful programs for all residents. It describes how we supported active living, celebrated the diversity of our citizens and contributed to the spectacular success of the 2010 Winter Games.

Strategic Plan

The Strategic Plan is a high level document that includes a mission and vision and sets out priorities and directions for our organization. It helps frame policies and links and informs the work plans of our divisions and services.

Vancouver's Public Golf Courses

The Park Board offers great, affordable golf within easy reach - in terms of dollars, distance and bookings - for golfers of all skill levels at its three exceptional full length golf courses and three pitch and putt courses. This brochure provides an overview of the full length courses, the services they offer, information on booking reservations and a map showing course locations. The Stanley Park Explorer

Though there are newer editions which include more parks in the lower mainland we still think this 175 page paperback was writer Mike Steele's best effort on Vancouver's first park. With this book in hand every day tripper can explore the nooks and crannies of Lord Stanley's Park while picking up tidbits of historic gossip and trivia which will make you an instant hit at discerning dinner parties when park history is the topic of discussion. This book too will answer all those enduring school essay questions which we've all been asked to provide answers for the eve before due date. Limited copies available.

The First 100 Years

Published by the Vancouver Park Board to mark their Centennial in 1988, this colourful hardback volume does double duty as a handy history tool and lovely coffee table book. Author Mike Steele weaves an interesting tale bringing Vancouver's pioneering past to the present with a special panache. Beautiful colour images. A perfect gift for the newcomer or native history buff.
