Canadian Patrol Program

This Lifesaving Society program delivers "work hard/play hard" training for skilled swimmers. The programs align with the Red Cross program. Timed 300m swim, 600m workout, and first aid.

Aquatillicums Program 

Bronze Medallion

Here's your starting point for becoming a Lifeguard. This challenging course includes instruction in lifesaving skills, water rescues and first aid. Prerequisite is Bronze Star or 13 years of age.

Bronze Cross

Increasing knowledge in lifesaving and lifeguarding skills, water rescues and first aid. Includes CPR - Level C. Prerequisite is Bronze Medallion.

Professional Development
Red Cross Assistant Water Safety Instructors (AWSI) - This is a prerequisite to the Red Cross WSI Course and covers the foundation of instructional skills including teaching methods, learning styles, physical principles and more. Includes 8 hours of assistant teaching. Prerequisite is 15 years of age.
Spring 2012 Courses 
National Lifeguard Service (NLS) – Pool Option - Candidates are educated in lifeguarding principles, emergency rescues and procedures associated with aquatic facilities. A required course for employment as a Lifeguard in most aquatic facilities. Prerequisite is Bronze Cross, Standard First Aid/Aquatic Emergency Care, CPR - Level C and 16 years of age.
Lifeguard Brochure 2012 
Red Cross Water Safety Instructors (WSI) - Required for teaching the Red Cross Swim Program. This course further develops instructional ability by focusing on how to apply the information learned in AWSI. Includes 12 hours of teaching experience. Prerequisite is 16 years of age.

Standard First Aid/Aquatic Emergency Care - Training in first aid and additional emergency care topics.
Lifeguard Brochure 2012 
Lifesaving Instructors - Required to teach the Canadian Swim Patrol levels, Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross awards. The course develops skill for teaching water rescues, first aid knowledge and fitness. Prerequisite is Bronze Cross. Spring 2012 Courses  CPR  Level C - Program focuses on life threatening conditions such as choking, respiratory and cardiac arrest, including 2-person CPR. These lifesaving skills are for babies, children and adults.
Lifeguard Brochure 2012 
Guard School - Vancouver Lifeguard School provides continuing education for anyone who holds a National Lifeguard award. Lifeguards are invited to attend these sessions to improve their existing skills and gain new ones. A VANCOUVER LIFEGUARD SCHOOL CERTIFICATE will be offered to those who attend 75% of the classes and pass the final exam. Pre-registration is required for certificate.
Lifeguard Brochure 2012 
BCRPA Aquafit Certification -  Required to teach the water fitness program at any of the Vancouver Park Board Pools. This is a highly desirable certification for aquatic professionals.
