Vancouver Parks Golf wrap-up of the Vancouver City Open Championship

Sept 16 , 2009 - Vancouver Parks Golf would like to congratulate Bryn Parry on his victory in the 2009 Vancouver City Open. The tournament conducted at Fraserview, McCleery and Langara Golf courses saw a record number of participants since its inaugural year in 2007. Bryn Parry played extremely well over the three days with an opening 66 at Fraserview, followed by a second round 65 at Langara and closed strong at McCleery with a final round 71 to finish at 12 under par and claim a two shot victory. Runner-up Phil Jonas tested McCleery and the tournament leader with a final round 67 for a 54 hole total of 10 under par.

Low scores from each day of the tournament were Bryn Parry and Stuart Anderson at Fraserview, both with 6 under par 66's. Parry fired a 6 under par 65 to post the low round of the day at Langara and Jonas and James Harper both closed with 4 under par 67's to post the day's low score a McCleery.

"We have been extremely pleased with the relationship we have had with the Vancouver Golf Tour in conducting this Championship at our Vancouver Parks Golf courses," stated Ron Caswell, Manager of Golf and Park Operations. "We've had some great feedback from the players, many of whom admitted they hadn't played our courses in a while and were amazed at the conditions and playability of all three."

Vancouver Parks Golf would also like to extend its congratulations to the amateur champions. The Championship Flight was won by Adam Cornelson, Graham Twiss took the title in the 'A Flight' and Peter Huai bested the competition in the 'B Flight'.

"It was extremely satisfying for our staff to be involved with a tournament of this magnitude and we are really happy to have joined the Vancouver Golf Tour in being able to raise $5,000 for the CKNW Orphan's Fund at the Pro-Am on Sunday at Fraserview," said Howard Normann, Supervisor of Golf Operations. "The quality of golf played by the Professionals is a testament to just how good theses guys are and it was great to see them test our courses, which held up very well," he added.

"It has been a great week and our decision to partner with Vancouver Parks Golf proved to be fantastic from the course conditions, meals and player feedback ", said Fraser Mullholand, Commissioner of the Vancouver Golf Tour.
