July 5, 2004 - Celebrate Skateboard Week from July 3rd to 10th by grinding and sliding your board at some of the city's best riding locations. Skateboard facilities are sited on a number of parks around the city offering something for everyone from the beginner to the highly skilled and for a range of interests - including bowls, ramps, hipboxes and street style layouts.

Opening in the Fall of 2004 is the new Downtown Skateboard Plaza at Quebec and Union Streets (under the Georgia/Dunsmuir Viaducts near the southeast corner of Andy Livingstone Park). It will be a street-style skateboard park, the first of its kind in North America.

China Creek Park South at East Broadway and Clark Drive

A single bowl, pyramid and a hipbox are open dawn until dusk daily. For more information call the Park Board Office at 604-257-8400.

Coopers' Park (North False Creek, under Cambie Bridge)

Two skate benches, grind rail and other features have been added to make the park more skate-friendly, separate from the children's playground.

False Creek Community Centre located at 1318 Cartwright Street

Operated on a basketball court with a launch ramp, fun box and rails. Available Saturdays from Noon - 4:00pm. For more information call False Creek Community Centre at 604-257-8195.

Hastings Park at Pandora and Renfrew Street

Three skateboard bowls and a street course are available from dawn until dusk. Summer programming through the Hastings Community Centre. For more information call 604-718-6222 or 604-257-8130.

Killarney Community Centre at 6260 Killarney Street- Indoor Sessions- Summer 2004

The Killarney X Club is open for 10-18 year old boarders from July 3 to August 31st, Tuesdays from 3 - 5 pm and Saturday from 1 - 4 pm. Cost is $1 per drop in. 604-718-8200.

Strathcona Park at Prior and Campbell Avenue

A beginner-intermediate street-style layout.
