"Make That to Go"
- During a Winter Walk
February 26, 2007 - The Watermark Bistro on Kits Beach caters to
waterfront walkers and joggers all year long.
Nothing
rewards outdoor physical activity during these cooler months than a
steaming cup of hot chocolate, snack or lunch conveniently available
along the way. The Watermark Restaurant at Kits Beach boasts a ground-level
Bistro serving lighter fare seven days a week from 11 am until 4 pm.
Unlike other areas of our expansive nation, winter walks or jogs here
are practically an everyday possibility. Without bundling up with toques,
long underwear and cumbersome outerwear, Vancouverites can stride or
stroll throughout the shorter days with little to hinder their gait.
Combine an outing with a cozy stopover at the Watermark, where the
glassed-in Bistro offers freshly prepared fish & chips, burgers,
sandwiches and drinks. Specialty coffees and muffins made from scratch
in the upstairs kitchen make this the best little secret in town when
it comes to scenic escapes. Perched on bar stools with a roaring gas
fireplace taking the chill off, the Watermark Bistro is a perfect finish
to a rainy day walk where over-wintering sea birds and freighters awaiting
their cargo can be easily spied from the comfort of this new addition
to the beachscape.
Putting off outdoor walks and jogs due to the weather? The average
February temperature here is 4° C compared to Montreal where it drops
to a chilly -9° C. Vancouver's mild winter makes outdoor walking
an excellent way to get the recommended 30 – 40 minutes activity
required to maintain a healthy lifestyle and what better place to achieve
it than along the shorelines of English Bay.
The Watermark Bistro will introduce new menu items in time for spring
including an array of new "healthy" choices like the chef's
daily soup creation previously only available in the upstairs restaurant.
