Celebrate Canada's 140th Birthday!
June
25, 2007 - Canada's special day
is quickly coming up this Sunday, July
1st and even if the weather doesn't cooperate,
there will be plenty of exciting, fun and
patriotic events close to home.
The following Vancouver Community Centres have a party-bag full of activities that will help participants celebrate all the reasons why it's good to be Canadian! And what would Canada Day be without music? Check it out.
Phone your local community centre to see if they have some special events planned that are not listed here.
All events are free and take place
on Canada Day
- Sunday, July 1st:
- Free Concert at Haywood Bandstand on Alexandra Park at 1 pm across from the English Bay Bathhouse. Enjoy original music rooted in the Arabic, Persian and Indian traditions. All performances are made possible by funding from the Esmond Lando Trust Fund, Edith Lando Charitable Foundation, and the American Federation of Musicians Performance Trust Fund, in cooperation with the Vancouver Park Board.
- False Creek Community Centre, 1318
Cartwright St., 10 am - 4 pm. A long roster of events including a free aerobics class, Teddy Bear picnic, Jello Eating Contest, a Parade and a Cake Walk! Tel. 604-257-8195.
- Kensington Community Centre, 5175 Dumfries St., 12 noon - 3 pm. Celebrate with the Kensington "community family" enjoying games, arts & crafts, face painting, live entertainment, hot dogs and birthday cake. Tel. 604-718-6200.
- Hastings Community Centre,
3096 East Hastings St., 11 am - 2
pm. Live entertainment,
line dancing, carnival games, BBQ and
crafts with a cake cutting ceremony

- Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre, 181 Roundhouse Mews, 12 noon - 10 pm. Free Jazz all day long in the Performance Centre, Exhibition Hall, Dance Studio, Gymnasium and at David Lam Park as part of the 22nd Annual TD Canada Trust Vancouver International Jazz Festival. - Sunset Community Centre, 404
East 51st Ave. 12
noon - 4 pm. Live stage performances, a host of children's activities, a delicious BBQ, birthday cake, balloon animals, field sports, face painting and a bouncy castle plus more. Tel. 604-718-6505.
- Free Fireworks in Coal Harbour
starting at 10:30 pm! The
Burrard Inlet Fireworks Society will
be staging a 20 minute fireworks show
on two barges located in Coal Harbour
off Canada Place. Good viewing areas
will include Harbour Green Park, Stanley
Park and CRAB/Portside Park.
Note: The Georgia Street entrance to Stanley Park may be closed between 9:45 pm - 10:45 pm once the parking lots are full to avoid any congestion or gridlock within Stanley Park.
