Youth Week activities

April 27, 2009 - Youth Week kicks off May 1 and continues through to May 7 with activities created especially for youth across the province. The Vancouver Park Board and many of its community centres are offering special events for Youth Week including:

Active YOUth Adventure Park Day
Saturday, May 2 2009, 11:00am - 3:00pm
Sunset Community Centre

The Active YOUth Adventure Day at Sunset Community Centre promises to be an exciting afternoon! Partnering with Vancouver Park Board Active Communities you can expect to find:

  • Climbing Wall
  • Red Fox Circus skills (stilts, hula hoops, juggling, pogo sticks)
  • Running Field Sports
  • A mini police physical activity test (operated by South Van Policing Centre)

There will also be...

  • A Survivor obstacle course
  • Healthy Snacks
  • Sports Stadium
  • Fire Truck Slide
  • And Prize Draws!
Playland Extravaganza!
Saturday, May 9 2009, 10:00am - 6:00pm
Playland @ the PNE

Come down to the Annual Playland Extravaganza! There will be the 4th Annual Youth Idol, contests, community information booths, 3-on-3 Basketball and unlimited access to all the rides!

Make sure you get your reduced rate ticket in advance from a participating Vancouver Community Centre or at Hastings Community Centre on the Day of the event.

Cost: $22 / Person

Skateboard Event
Saturday, May 9 2009, 1:00pm - 5:00pm
Union Plaza Skate Park @ Union and Quebec Streets, Vancouver

This will be a non-competitive, family friendly skateboard event, celebrating and showcasing the practice, culture and history of skateboarding.

  • BBQ: on offer hot dogs and bottled drinks/wrapped snacks, (non-alcoholic drinks only)
  • Music/Bands: Performances (tba)
  • Skate videos: projected on pillars/screen (tba)
  • Display booths: CASA, VSPC and other not-for-profit skate groups(promotion of safe skating)
  • Vancouver Skateboard Coalition members/associates showcasing some tricks/skating

Note: Normal plaza rules apply (unsupervised, skate at your own risk, helmets and safety gear recommended, etc.) will not be supervised by staff.

Youth Week is an international celebration of youth held annually during the first week of May. It is a week of fun, interaction and celebration intending to build a strong connection between young people and their communities and to profile the issues, accomplishments and diversity of youth across British Columbia.
