Project Description

The project site located at 6th and Fir currently contains a building that was formerly occupied by False Creek Collision on a rental basis. The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, who own the property, have taken possession of the site.  The future park on this property is for the benefit of residents and people who work in the area.  It will create accessible green space in keeping with the City’s greenest city goals.

The Park Board anticipates that there will be four phases of work required before a new park is constructed at this location. These four phases are as follows:

Phase 1: Building Demolition
Phase 2: Environmental Assessment and Remediation
Phase 3: Public Engagement and Park Design
Phase 4: Park Construction

Key Dates: Demolition of the building will begin in October, 2011. Upon completion of the demolition phase of the project, an environmental assessment will be conducted to determine if any ground remediation work will need to be pursued prior to the construction of a new park.

Community Participation

The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation invite public involvement as we move forward with the development of a new park at this location. The Park Board will hire a landscape architectural consultant to assist in the design and public engagement for the new park plan. With this in mind, opportunities for public involvement will begin in the winter of 2012.
