Archival Film of Vancouver Featured at Strathcona Community Centre in Looking Back Series

April 22, 2004 (No. 21) - As part of the Looking Back series, the Vancouver Park Board and CBC Television present a recollection of Chinatown and the surrounding area through film, hosted by the Strathcona Community Centre 601 Keefer Street, Wednesday, April 28th from 7:00 pm-9:00 pm, Admission is free.

"Summer Afternoon" (1956) is an exploration of Chinatown that follows the wanderings of two young boys at play in and around the shops, streets and False Creek waterfront. Wai-Yee and Wah-Hon (1974) follows the lives of two Chinese-Canadian cousins who grew up in Strathcona in the 1970s. CBC news footage from the '70s and '80s documents important community issues of the period such as the Raymur pedestrian overpass, Prior Street and the community garden.

Looking Back is an exciting series of presentations that reflect on the City of Vancouver's history through old moving images and narration. These events are presented in cooperation between CBC Television and the Vancouver Park Board and will be offered at local community centres throughout the coming year.
