Vancouver's Young Trees Need Water

Even with the recent rain, young street trees still need watering as prescribed below. Count one rainy day as one watering day.

July 5, 2004 (No. 47) - The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation is responsible for the care of trees along city streets. While we are doing everything possible to keep newly planted trees moist, the continued hot and dry weather is causing many to dry out.

Residents of Vancouver are being asked to assist in maintaining moisture levels for newly planted trees by applying at least 3 - 5 gallons of water several times per week over the roots of these trees. Water restrictions do not include recently installed trees, but be water wise by ensuring that all of it gets to the tree.

Small yellow tags placed on young trees will help identify the specimens in front of residences that require watering. Even trees planted three years ago need an extra water boost each week.
