Looking Back: A Cinematic Look at Our City at Renfrew Park and Kerrisdale Community Centres

October 12, 2004 (No. 74) - See how our city has grown, and how it views itself, from the 1900s onward through a series of early films. All screening sessions listed below will commence with the 1907 footage of downtown Vancouver, the oldest known film of our city.

  • The Westside trip on the Interurban. 1950s footage from the front of a trolley car.
  • Hycroft Manor. A spooky 1960s tour of the famous Shaughnessy Mansion.
  • Sweeney's Cooperage. A young boy gets a 1960s tour of the cooperage, on the site of what is now Coopers' Park in Yaletown, from Mr. Sweeney himself. Also, news footage from the early 1980s of the cooperage's demolition.
  • Demolition of Walk-up Apartments in Kerrisdale. 1980s news footage of the controversial trend of tearing down buildings.
