Park Board Lifeguard School Offered Starting January 11^th, 2005

December 24, 2004 (No. 89) - If you are interested in working as a lifeguard for the Vancouver Park Board, you should consider signing up for its annual Lifeguard School slated for January 11th, 2005. The school includes the new National Lifeguard Service Pool and Waterfront Options, Aquatic Emergency Care, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Standard First Aid, Competition and Skill Development sessions and Lifeguard Public Relations.

The School is open to qualified lifeguards, as well as those with their Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross who wish to be eligible to lifeguard within the Vancouver Park Board's beaches and pools system. Successful candidates are given priority when the Park Board is hiring new staff for beaches and pools. The training also qualifies participants to lifeguard anywhere in Canada. As well, there are update sessions for new and returning employees (nominal fee) who may want to re-certify their awards or review particular skills for current employment.

The Park Board's Lifeguard School is celebrating its 69th year and has instructors with a minimum of 10 years of lifeguard experience. Most of these instructors are professional educators in the fields of emergency services, medicine and aquatic administration. Remuneration for starting Park Board Lifeguards is about $18 to $22 per hour depending on location.
