Refurbished Renfrew Pool OpensFree Public Swimming January 31st and February 1st, 6 am - 9 pm
The pool has a brand new 25-metre tank with an adjacent accessible ramp and bubble pit area for younger children. A new, larger whirl pool and seating area give the impression of sitting among the tree tops offered by views through the nearby floor to ceiling windows. The sauna is completely new inside and the popular fitness centre was expanded. The major upgrades to the facility address seismic improvements along with improved washroom and exit accesses and a revamped fire alarm system. The completion of an elevator is slated for later this spring. To celebrate the completion of the project, Renfrew Pool will be open free for public swimming on Monday, January 31st and Tuesday, February 1st from 6 am to 9 pm. Total funding for the rebuilt Renfrew Pool and associated facility upgrades cost about $3 million which includes a contribution of $560,000 from the Renfrew Community Centre Association. This project is part of the Park Board's Aquatics Review which identified pool redevelopment providing services at three different user levels: neighbourhood, community and city-wide pools. Renfrew Pool is considered a neighbourhood facility. - 30 - Contact: Nancy Reynolds, Coordinator Renfrew Community Centre, at 604-257-8386.
