Open House - Public Invited to Help Plan the Park Site at 37th Avenue and Oak StreetFebruary 18, 2005 (No. 13) - The public is invited to an Open House to share ideas for the future development of the park site located at the northeast corner of 37th Avenue & Oak Street. Park Board staff have initiated a process to review development ideas for the site. Particular interest has been expressed to develop Ultimate disc sports fields that could also be used by other associated field users. The Park Board would like to meet with neighbours and other interested members of the public to discuss how the park site is currently used and what residents like about the park site. Ideas for improving the site as a park space through the addition of playing fields, natural areas, walking trails, dog walking areas and other amenities are welcome. This 4.74 hectare park site is a remnant of the old Shaughnessy Golf Course that was purchased by the Park Board in 1961 along with the lands on the west side of Oak Street that now comprise VanDusen Botanical Garden.
