Community Event Marks Completion of Kitsilano Foreshore Erosion Control Project

April 21, 2005 (No. 28) - The Point Grey Foreshore Society is hosting an event to celebrate the completion of the Kitsilano Foreshore Erosion Control Project at 3:00 pm Friday April 22nd. The event will be held at the information sign located just west of the Kitsilano Yacht Club. The foreshore pathway that has been re-established through the project begins at the foot of Balsam Street and runs to Trafalgar Street (below Point Grey Road). Cake, refreshments and a tour of the project are planned as part of the celebrations.

The Vancouver Park Board worked with the Point Grey Foreshore Society to develop a plan that would address the erosion problem through the use of plant materials, rocks and other natural elements. KWL Engineering were contracted to oversee the completion of the $150,000 project. A series of annual storms followed by a major storm in 2001 had resulted in the serious erosion of the Kitsilano foreshore and had undermined the pathway's safety.
