New Renfrew Pool Officially Opens This Friday

April 25, 2005 (No. 29) - The public is invited to the official opening ceremonies of the new Renfrew Pool on Friday, April 29th from 4:30 pm - 8:30 pm. Located at 2929 East 22nd Avenue, the pool is a part of the Renfrew Community Centre located on beautiful Renfrew Ravine Park.

Special opening activities include free swimming, crafts to decorate the pool and other games. A Lion Dance will precede the official ribbon cutting and Recognition Wall unveiling at 6 pm to be followed by free cake for all.

The pool has a brand new 25 metre tank with an adjacent accessible ramp and bubble pit area for younger children. A new, larger whirl pool and seating area give the impression of sitting among the tree tops offered by views through the nearby floor to ceiling windows. The sauna is completely new inside and the popular fitness centre was expanded.

The major upgrades to the facility address seismic improvements along with improved washroom and exit accesses, a revamped fire alarm system and a new elevator.

Total funding for the rebuilt Renfrew Pool and associated facility upgrades cost about $3 million which includes a contribution of $560,000 from the Renfrew Community Centre Association. This project is part of the Park Board's Aquatics Review which identified pool redevelopment providing services at three different user levels: neighbourhood, community and city-wide pools. Renfrew Pool is considered a neighbourhood facility.
