This production came about through a longstanding interest on the part of the community centre to acknowledge its origins as the Kitsilano War Memorial Community Centre. Driven by community association board member, Roberta Howie, the centre created a peace mosaic walkway in 2002, a peace mural on the entry wall with artist in residence Ruth Jones in 2003 and published a book, Path to Peace in 2004 with stories and memories of the war years collected from community members by Lizanne Fisher. In 2005, mosaics were added to the seniors' peace garden.

Building on these stories, the artists of Theatre Melee, Courtenay Dobbie and Jeff Gladstone, have engaged community participants in all aspects of the play from performance to set design and production, involving 35 performers of all ages.
