Second Open House to Present Concepts for a New Park for Marpole

August 4, 2005 (No. 62) - The Vancouver Park Board will be holding a second Open House to present concepts for development of a new park at West 72nd Avenue between Selkirk and Osler Streets.

Thursday, August 11, 2005
7:00pm-9:00pm
Scottish Cultural Centre
8886 Hudson Street (at 73rd Avenue)

The first Open House, held on June 1st, gave residents the opportunity to discuss what features and facilities they think the park should have. Some of the suggestions include a playground, open grassy areas, trees, benches, picnic tables, paths and entry features.

Residents can review, evaluate and finalize concept options for the park that will then be presented to the Park Board Commissioners for their approval.

The park site, approximately .40 hectares (1 acre) in size, will be a welcome new amenity for the young families and seniors who together make up a large percentage of the residents living in the area. The new park site is comprised of lands purchased through the Park Board's land acquisition capital fund. The existing parks in the neighbourhood include Eburne Park (.90 h) with 4 tennis courts, Marpole Park (.27 h) with a playground and William Mackie Park (.40 h) with a playground and a half basketball court.
