Vancouver's Young Trees Need WaterAugust 12, 2005 (No. 63) - The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation is responsible for the care of trees along city streets. While we are doing everything possible to keep newly planted trees moist, the continued hot and dry weather is causing many to dry out. Residents of Vancouver are being asked to assist in maintaining moisture levels for newly planted trees by applying at least 3 - 5 gallons of water several times per week over the roots of these trees. Water restrictions do not include recently installed trees, but be water wise by ensuring that all of it gets to the tree. Trees planted within the last four years would benefit most by watering at this time. - 30 - For further information, contact: Street Trees Division at 604-257-8600. The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation maintains 200 parks and 40 major facilities throughout the City of Vancouver. The Park Board's mission is to provide, preserve and advocate for parks and recreation services to benefit people, communities and the environment. |
