Job Action Affects Park Board Services

October 21, 2005 (No. 24) - A number of Vancouver community centres and other Park Board facilities are closed today, due to job action by civic unions who are not reporting to work in support of the B.C. Teachers' labour dispute. These closures and other disruptions will occur until this afternoon, after which time it is expected that the facilities will reopen for the evening and the weekend.

Facilities affected include some community centres, pools, rinks, marinas and Bloedel Conservatory, as well as service yards. Full length golf courses are open with reduced service and Rupert Park and Stanley Park pitch & putts are open. Parks, gardens, arboriculture, sanitation and other outdoor services will also be affected. The Stanley Park Ghost Train will run this evening at its regular times.

The present situation could change during the day. Residents can check for updates on affected park and recreation services at the Park Board's web site at www.vancouverparks.ca.

The Park Board regrets any inconvenience to our patrons as a result of these closures.
