Park Board Seeks Input from Residents for Proposed New Dog Off-Leash Sites in Stanley and Other Downtown Parks

January 26, 2006 (No. 6) - The Vancouver Park Board is reviewing a request from several downtown resident groups to designate areas of Stanley, Devonian and Creekside Parks as dog off-leash zones and to extend off-leash hours at Coopers' and Portside Parks to all day-6 am to 10 pm. The public is invited to share their comments on this proposal by February 28, 2006.

The dog off-leash program began in 1998 and currently includes 31 park locations around the city. The Park Board has been responding to neighbourhood needs by reviewing requests and adding new off-leash sites, extending hours and improving signage and communication on responsible dog ownership. The downtown peninsula, with its higher densities of people and dogs, remains a concern because of the smaller number of suitable off-leash locations.
