MoreSports Kicks off Fitness and Adventrue Passport
February
16, 2006 (No.
9) - The MoreSports Fitness & Adventure
Passport, a new program designed
to motivate children to become more active
within their own community, will be launched
at Tillicum
Elementary School at 2:15 pm
on Monday, February 20th. Located at 2450
Cambridge Street,
Tillicum School's teachers along with Park
Board and Kiwassa Neighbourhood House staff
will unveil the pilot program during an end-of-day
assembly attended by 150 children.
MoreSports
,
an umbrella organization that provides recreational
services to inner-city children, is piloting
the Fitness & Adventure
Passport to encourage participation
by each student in a wide variety of fitness
activities that include: swimming, skating,
soccer, climbing, circus arts and walking.
On completion of each of the ten adventures,
the students will receive a stamp on their
passport. At the conclusion of the month-long
pilot program on March 20th, children
will be recognized for their fitness achievements.
The
passport project is part of the Vancouver
Park Board's "Active
Communities"
program
in conjunction with the Vancouver
School Board's "Action
Schools! BC"
initiative.
It is part of an overall goal to inspire
Vancouver residents of all ages to become
physically fit and enjoy a more healthy lifestyle.
Tillicum
Elementary School is an ideal inner-city
school to host this pilot program. The Fitness & Adventure
Passport is sponsored by MoreSports
in conjunction with the Vancouver Park Board,
Vancouver
School Board
, Kiwassa
Neighborhood House and
the Vancouver
Foundation
.
