Tuesday February 28th Is Closing Date For Comments on New Dog Off-Leash Sites in Stanley and Other Downtown ParksFebruary 20, 2006 (No. 11) - The Vancouver Park Board is reviewing a request from several downtown resident groups to designate areas of Stanley, Devonian and Creekside Parks as dog off-leash zones and to extend off-leash hours at Coopers' and Portside Parks to all day - 6 am to 10 pm. The public is reminded that the closing date for receiving comments on this proposal is Tuesday, February 28th. The dog off-leash program began in 1998 and currently includes 31 park locations around the city. The Park Board has been responding to neighbourhood needs by reviewing requests and adding new off-leash sites, extending hours and improving signage and communication on responsible dog ownership. The downtown peninsula, with its higher densities of people and dogs, remains a concern because of the smaller number of suitable off-leash locations. The public can find out more about the proposal on the Park Board web site, vancouverparks.ca, and can share their comments by: e-mailing: pbcomment@vancouver.ca - 30 - Media should contact: Jim Lowden, Director, Stanley District at 604-257-8487 for more information. The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation maintains 200 parks and 40 major facilities throughout the City of Vancouver. The Park Board's mission is to provide, preserve and advocate for parks and recreation services to benefit people, communities and the environment. |
