Community Film Series to Feature Aboriginal ThemesMarch 20, 2006 (No. 19) - Several of Vancouver's Community Centres are hosting a free film series focusing on First Nations' history, stories, issues and art. The intent of the series is to encourage dialogue, build bridges, provide programming relevant to Aboriginal People and increase awareness of the aboriginal cultures in Vancouver. Young and emerging filmmakers, as well as more established ones will be participating. Local people will be featured including Rhonda Larrabee from the National Film Board's A Tribe of One, depicting the journey Rhonda's family made as they discovered their true First Nations' cultural identity. Local filmmakers Terry Haines (Painted Positive) and Helen Haig-Brown (Tu-Suhudinh) will also be participating with their independent works. This series is presented in partnership between the Vancouver Park Board, the National Film Board and independent artists.
