Watch For Debris on Beaches

June 26, 2006 (No. 17) - The Vancouver Park Board has been alerted that debris resulting from a barge mishap is washing up on several Vancouver beaches. Lifeguards and Park Board maintenance crews are working together to inform beach patrons regarding safety concerns and to clean-up the debris as it comes in. On the weekend a barge was moving a house when the building fell into the ocean and broke-up releasing the contents of the house. The public is asked to stay clear of the debris and report anything they see to beach staff. Beaches impacted so far by the debris include Locarno, Kitsilano, English Bay, Sunset and the dog off leash area at Vanier Park.
