Park Board Appoints Dog Strategy Task ForceSeptember 14, 2006 (No. 66) - The Vancouver Park Board appointed the members of the Dog Strategy Task Force at its regular Board meeting on September 11th. The volunteer members were recruited from applications received by the Park Board following a city-wide advertising campaign. Applicants expressed interest in participating in the development of a strategy to balance the needs of all park users including dogs and their owners. The members are: Erik Whiteway The Dog Strategy Task Force members were selected for their expertise in specific areas including: parks and leisure; children and families; pets; environment and habitat; business and economy or community relations. The Park Board approved the creation of the Dog Strategy Task Force on May 29, 2006. It is expected to achieve a number of important outcomes: a balanced compromise between restraint and freedom for dogs; a happy parks and leisure experience for all; a sharing of public spaces within specified practices, rules and regulations; a fair representation of all views; the identification of baseline data and key success factors; and the identification of realistic and cost-effective solutions.
