New Slocan Park Shelter Opens for Moon FestivalSeptember 28, 2006 (No. 70) - The Vancouver Park Board will celebrate the opening of the new Slocan Park Shelter on Saturday, October 7th starting at 3:45 pm. Located at Slocan Street and 29th Avenue, the park has received numerous landscape improvements and other upgrades over the past three years. The multi-use shelter was suggested by the surrounding community during the Vancouver Park Board's Capital Plan process. The open-sided, 50' by 25' structure has a metal roof with concrete floor and is comprised of galvanized steel columns and wood glulam beams and rafters. The shelter represents another piece in the park's Master Plan which to date has included paving, lighting and native carving. It is a welcome addition for the daily Tai Chi users and will serve as a focal point for the park's many outdoor festivals and events.
