Bloedel Floral Conservatory Sparkles for the SeasonDecember 12, 2006 (No. 91) - Bloedel Conservatory, atop beautiful Queen Elizabeth Park, offers sparkling, festive floral displays all month long, making it a great destination for the holidays. A lush tapestry of over 1,000 red, pink, cream and burgundy poinsettias has transformed this tropical paradise into a seasonal wonderland. Grown in the Park Board's own nursery, this year's poinsettias are exceptional for their size and beauty. New varieties and hanging basket specimens add to the magic under the dome. No matter what the weather is outside, this tropical paradise provides a great escape from the winter doldrums - without leaving town. Meandering pathways, bamboo bridges over koi-filled ponds, exotic plants from around the world and colourful birds make it a great family destination. Bring your binoculars too and observe over 60 species of tropical birds that call the Bloedel Conservatory home, including a pair of spectacular red macaws ("Maria" and "Carmen") and our ever-popular pink cockatoo, "Charlie". The park can be accessed via West 29th Avenue from Cambie Street. Follow the signs into the park at the West 29th Avenue entrance, located just west of Ontario Street (across the street from Nat Bailey Stadium).
