Park Board Update on Stanley Park Clean-up

December 18, 2006 (No. 96) - Park Board crews continue their work to reopen the park after extensive damage has closed roads, facilities, the Seawall and forest trails after last Friday's storm. The following is a progress report on the clean-up efforts and an update on park access as of 4:00 PM , Monday, December 18th.

  • Vehicular access to the East side of the park (east of Pipeline Road) has been reinstated. This includes Park Drive, Pipeline Road and Avison Way.
  • Vehicular access to the West side of the park, including the section of Park Drive west of Pipeline Road, and North Lagoon Drive is still closed, indefinitely.
  • Park facilities now re-opened include the Park Board Administration Office; the Aquarium, the Rowing Club, the Stanley Park Ecology Society; the Fish House Restaurant (opens at 4:30, closed for lunch); the Information Booth, Legends of the Moon Gift Shop and the totem pole area (open 'til 4 pm); Royal Vancouver Yacht Club (open club hours, restaurant open 'til 4 pm).
  • Bright Nights and the Christmas Train are open.
  • Park facilities that are still closed include the Stanley Park Pavilion (except for private functions); Prospect Point Café and Gift Shops and the Sequoia Grill.
  • The Seawall is accessible from the Georgia Street entrance, but cyclists and roller bladers must use Pipeline Road to detour from the park. The Beach Avenue entrance to the Seawall is open to pedestrian traffic as far as Third Beach. Barricades restrict all Seawall traffic between Third Beach and Lions Gate Bridge because of a major landslide.
  • The public is urged to stay out of the forested areas and off forest trails - these areas have not been assessed and cleared.
  • The public is also urged to stay well away from forestry crews working in the park. This can be a very hazardous situation for crews and the public.
  • There is no bus service into the park. Bus service is available only as far as the roundabout at the Georgia Street entrance of the park.
