Update on Stanley Park Storm Clean-up

December 22, 2006 (No. 100) - One week into the post windstorm clean-up, Park Board crews continue their work in Stanley Park the park after extensive damage closed roads, facilities, the Seawall and forest trails. The following is a progress report as of mid-morning on Friday, December 22nd.

  • Sequoia Grill Reopened -- staff have now provided temporary vehicular access to Sequoia Grill Restaurant at Ferguson Point on the west side of Stanley Park . Access for restaurant patrons only is provided via the Beach Avenue park entrance, and two-way road access continues beyond Second Beach to the restaurant parking lot. The restaurant is open regular hours - call 604-669-3281.
  • Bright Nights Open -- the public is encouraged to get into the holiday spirit with a visit to Bright Nights in Stanley Park with million twinkling lights, seasonal displays and a magical train ride through the towering Stanley Park forest. Visitors will also be helping support the great work of the B.C. Professional Firefighters' Burn Fund. Call 604-257-8531 for daily updates.
  • Aquarium Open -- will also be open on Christmas and New Years Day and is offering special winter break activities. Visit their web site at vanaqua.org.
  • Stanley Park Pavilion Open for Special Functions -- contact them to book at 604-602-3088.
  • Fish House Restaurant Open -- call for details at 604-681-7275
  • Prospect Point Café and Gift Shop Closed -- this facility remains closed.
  • West Side Remains Closed -- progress continues to be made by Park Board forestry crews in their efforts to open the West side of the park. This area remains closed to public access indefinitely as staff work to assess and remove remaining hazards.
  • Trails Still Closed -- the public is asked to respect barricades in the park and is again urged to stay out of the forested areas and off forest trails-these areas have not been assessed and cleared.
  • Tree Fund -- a Stanley Park Tree Donation Fund has been activated for those wishing to donate to the park's reforestation. More information is available on our web site or by calling 604-257-6911.
  • Seawall Is Open -- access from the Georgia Street entrance, but cyclists and roller bladers must use Pipeline Road to detour from the park. The Beach Avenue entrance to the Seawall is open to pedestrian traffic as far as Third Beach .
  • Bus Service to Park -- service is available to the park as far as the roundabout at the Georgia Street entrance.
