Park Board Operating Budget -
No Cuts in 2007

March 12, 2007 (No. 15) - On February 27th, City Council approved the Park Board Operating Budget for 2007. Council had initially considered a $440,800 reduction target for the Park Board in order to confine Vancouver's property tax increase to 4%. After careful evaluation of the impact of the proposed budget reduction to park and recreation programs, the Board advocated for no budget cuts. Residents also echoed the same concern and supported the value of park and recreation services in the community. In response, Council decided not to allocate a base reduction to the Park Board.

The Park Board will receive $442,100 for operating costs of new and expanded parks and facilities (added basic) in 2007. The Operating Budget will be tabled for approval at the Park Board meeting scheduled for Monday, April 2nd. Meeting agendas can be viewed on the web site at vancouverparks.ca.
