Special Events in Vancouver Parks

June 1, 2007 (No. 16) - Vancouver Parks host a diverse range of cultural events and outdoor activities. Listed below are some upcoming special events facilitated by the Vancouver Park Board. National Aboriginal Day June 21, 12 noon - 5 pm at John Hendry Park (Trout Lake). A colourful day featuring a variety of free Aboriginal events including teepees, canoeing, performances, dancing, arts & crafts tables, food and more. Everyone welcome. Ph. 604-257-6955.

Vancouver Sun Garden Show June 7th-10th, 10 am - 6 pm. at VanDusen Garden. Largest outdoor garden show in Canada with over 100 exhibitors. Free garden talks and display gardens.

Bard on the Beach June 1st-Sept 23rd at Vanier Park presents its annual summer Shakespeare Festival and special events. Featured this year under the tents are The Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar and Timon of Athens. Ph. 604-737-0625. or www.bardonthebeach.org

Summer Fair June 9th - 11 am-4 pm at Champlain Heights Community Centre. An annual event chock-full of music, entertainment, food and rides. Ph. 604-718-6575.

Stanley Park Bike Festival June 16th - 7:30 am-2 pm Ceperley Meadow in Stanley Park. Organized by BEST. Vancouver's largest celebration of cycling. New location this year at Ceperley Meadow near 2nd Beach from 9 am-4 pm. Ph 604-733-4419

Alcan Dragon Boat Festival June 16th-17th at Plaza of Nations/Coopers' Park, presented by the Canadian International Dragon Boat Society. Ph. 604-683-4707.

Dog Day Afternoon June 16th - 11 am-3 pm at John Hendry Park (Trout Lake). A virtual festival for canines with all sorts of special events, food and information for the well-behaved urban pooch. Some highlights include: dog training demos, canine contests, dog agility demos, hot dog BBQ, Emergency Pet Registration, free draws and giveaway bags. Special guests include the Beagle Club of BC.
