Empire Bowl at Hastings Park
June 22, 2007 (No. 40) - The
Moresports-Whitecaps-BCSA World
Mini Soccer Festival will be held at Empire
Bowl at Hastings Park (PNE Grounds) on Saturday,
June 23rd. This annual event brings together
thousands of children and youth enrolled
in MoreSports soccer programs for
a festive year-end tournament.
MoreSports is a recreational sport development initiative
which started in 1999 in three inner city communities. It now provides
sport opportunities through seven geographical neighbourhoods or hubs
to children and youth on the north and east sides of Vancouver. Over
3,000 participants are currently involved in MoreSports soccer, basketball,
badminton and special events.
The Vancouver Park Board is a core funding partner of this award-winning
recreation program and has supported it, along with community partners
and agencies as well as organizational and school partners, since its
inception eight years ago.
This year's soccer event includes
continued support from the Vancouver Whitecaps
and the BC Soccer Association in recognition
of June being "Soccer month" in
BC. In addition to the tournament, the
event includes a climbing wall, games and
festival activities for all participants
and their families.
