Swimmers Warned About Logs Washing Up On Beaches
July 11, 2007 (No. 43) - Vancouver Park Board staff are warning swimmers and beach visitors to stay away from logs washing up on beaches over the next few days. A large log boom positioned off of Point Grey broke up late yesterday depositing over 200 logs, some still in bundles of 20-30 spires, all along the popular west side beaches. High tide later today at 5:45 pm will make these logs extremely dangerous as they come to shore with the flow. Park Board Lifeguards are advising all swimmers to stay clear until the logs can be cleaned up by the company that owns them starting later tonight. Beach goers and swimmers are reminded to be careful at the beach during this stretch of sunny weather and to don sufficient sunscreen, protective head gear and appropriate foot wear. - 30 - For further information contact: The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation maintains 200 parks and 40 major facilities throughout the City of Vancouver.
