Agreement reached with CUPE 1004 on Beach Cleanup

July 31, 2007 (No. 47) - The Vancouver Park Board and CUPE Local 1004 reached an agreement today on the deployment of exempt Park Board staff for clean up on beaches and in parks after the HSBC Celebration of Light events on English Bay.

"With limited staff available for clean up duty after the fireworks, we really appreciate the extra efforts of spectators to pack out their own litter," said Susan Mundick, Park Board General Manager.

Alicia Maluta, General Manager of the Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society, said, "The first two nights of HSBC Celebration of Light were a great success and with even bigger crowds expected for the final two shows, we want everyone to continue to participate in keeping our beaches and parks clean and safe."
