Junior Lifeguard Camps Offered for Ages 9 to 15
July 7th to August 29th
July 4, 2008 (No. 38)
- The Vancouver Lifeguard Association is
now accepting registration for the popular
"Beach Alert" Junior Lifeguard
Camps running in July and August.
The week-long camps are structured for kids
aged 9 to 15 years and run from 9 am to 12
noon at Vancouver's popular Kitsilano Beach.
Registration takes place at the Vancouver
Aquatic Centre. Parents can phone 604-665-3421
for information.
All camp participants must first know how
to swim in order to attend. They will learn
about first aid, water safety, self rescue,
lifesaving and lifeguarding skills in a fun,
safe environment. The day starts at the Kitsilano
Yacht Club, located at 2401 Point Grey Road,
for the first hour. They will then use Kits
Pool and eventually end up on Kitsilano Beach
to use beach equipment. Participants are
introduced to a wide range of skills and
knowledge that include: Bronze Medallion,
Bronze Course, National Lifeguard Service
(NLS) Pool and Waterfront Certification,
Emergency First Aid, CPR and competition
skills.
The program is taught and supervised by certified waterfront lifeguards, instructors and coaches and is designed to provide a safe and fun learning environment for youth, employing equipment used everyday by Vancouver's lifeguards such as rowboats, paddle boards and open kayaks.
