Prospect Point Tourist Attractions Open for Business during Park Drive Realignment ProjectJuly 17, 2008 (No. 21)
- Prospect Point in Stanley Park is open
for business while work on the Park Drive
realignment project proceeds. Pedestrians
can still access the historic Prospect Point
Lookout which provides panoramic views of
Lions Gate Bridge, Burrard Inlet, Howe Sound
and the North Shore mountains. The Prospect
Point Cafe Ample car parking is available in the newly opened parking lot. Tour buses can continue to use the same section of roadway east of the washrooms for parking. Prospect Point is an important local landmark that has played a significant role in development of Vancouver as a city. The point was the home of Vancouver's first Signal Station which regulated all shipping activity in and out of the First Narrows of Vancouver harbour. The Realignment Project involves the relocation of 140 metres of the hairpin curve of Park Drive and angle parking across from the restaurant; the removal of asphalt from the old section of Park Drive near the viewpoint and new drainage and landscaping. The number of parking stalls has been maintained and the parking area has been separated by a landscaped median to improve public safety at one of Vancouver's most popular tourist destinations. -30- For more information contact Carol DeFina, Communications Coordinator, at 604-257-8440.
